It was a sultry afternoon
From sleep the monarch called his groom
The harem stirred, who would receive
The summons to his lust relieve?
But no-one came their peace upset
The king was at the parapet
For underneath his blink-less gaze
A woman bathed, his loins ablaze
Go! Get her! Bring her to me now!
No questions asked, the eunuchs bow
My lord, the king, demands to see
You in the flesh immediately
No need to dress, no robe can hide
You till his wants are satisfied
Obedient to the king’s command
Bathsheba fell into his hand
